Zoo Kingdom

Zoo Kingdom was developed by Blue Fang who produced the famous Zoo Tycoon series of games and is one of a growing number of games offered on Facebook.

These pages are designed to support Zoo Kingdom players and like the game itself will always be in a state of development.

John Sherriff's Hints and Tips

1. Advanced tip. At level 22 the most profitable animal is a capybara which gives 1150 coins and 150XP every 3 hours. That's an average of 183.33 coins and 50 XP per hour BUT only if you can get back every 3 hours.

If you can only get back once per day there are lots of animals which beat that. Ignoring Blue Certificate animals:

At 6 hour intervals the best animal is a Royal Spoonbill;
at 12 hours the best animal is a Dingo;
at 24 hours the best animal is a Roosevelt Elk

2. Beginner's tip. Got a tank of nasty piranhas? No space? Need coins?

3. Everyone Working on the visitor trophy which you earn by visiting other's zoos?
You don't have to visit just those which need attention - visit all the zoos, previously visited or not. They still count towards the trophy. In fact you can switch back and forward between just two zoos; your own and someone else's!

4. Everyone. By the time you have clicked the second brush (groom) icon above an animal you will have got a popup window offering items to your friends. You might find this useful at the moment if you are having problems with the Zoo Spin. If Facebook is working slowly it might seem as if you need to click on more than two. If you are just starting out and don't have two animals to groom, visit your friend's zoos.

5. Everyone. If you are using the move tool and select the wrong item just click on the Arrow tool and your mis-selected item will go back to where it was. (Hey Devs - wouldn't it be a good idea if the Esc key performed this function?)

6. Expert tip. Do you have a Capybara farm to quickly gain coins and XP?

capybara farm
A 200 Capybara farm which gains 230,000 coins and 30,000 XP every time it is collected on.

Are you at level 43 or higher? If so there's a better alternative. Replace your capybaras with a gerenuk farm. It needs a grassland biome (costs less than tropical rainforest) and a 200 gerenuk farm would produce 390,000 coins and 52,000 XP in the same time. A 'pro' is they live for 32 cycles rather than 20 but a 'con' is that they cost almost three times as much (60,000 coins as opposed to 22,000 coins).

If you are at level 55 or more consider using the African sacred ibis. It earns 98.3 XP per hour but costs 95,000 coins. That 200 animal farm, using the ibis, would earn 389,000 coins and 59,000 XP every 3 hours!

7. Everyone. If you have lots of animals/items to adopt from the wall use SeaMonkey web browser. It won't hang as all the others do when you have more than one window of Zoo Kingdom open at once. Ctrl click all the items you want to adopt and then open the leftmost tab of the ones created. Wait until the item gives you the 'Congratulations..' or 'Sorry...' message before you close it or look at any of the other tabs.

8. Everyone. Did you know you can drag a link from any window onto the centre of any tab in a browser and the link will replace what is currently there? It works between two different browsers too.

9. Everyone. Sick of that annoying application which you don't want to play posting things on your wall? Here's how to stop it:

Block application 1

Block application 2

If you later decide you made a mistake (?) then go to Account > Privacy Settings > Block lists Edit your lists and unblock the blocked application

10. Beginner's tip. When you first start your zoo you are taken through a short tutorial and are offered an animal to adopt. Choose the red kangaroo. It makes the most money and experience points. Oh dear - already past that bit and you chose the lion too did you? It will get the same XP per hour but 4 fewer coins per hour.

11. Beginners tip. Really short of money? Close the zoo and then restart it. Every time you restart the zoo you will, over a few minutes, get ten new visitors who will pay you 200 coins entry fees so if you want another 200 coins - restart your zoo.

12. Expert tip When you are at the level cap it makes sense to replace animals in your entry map with the most coin profitable ones. Adopt any of these you see on the wall. Below is a list of the 20 most profitable animals for making money the numbers are coins per hour:

Most profitable coin animals:

  1. Gerenuk : 650.00
  2. Capybara : 383.33
  3. Royal Spoonbill : 366.67
  4. Finnish Forest Reindeer : 300.00
  5. Crowned Sifaka : 225.00
  6. Przewalski's Wild Horse : 208.33
  7. Giant Panda : 204.17
  8. Arabian Oryx : 200.00
  9. Dingo : 191.67
  10. Aardvark : 183.33
  11. Arctic Wolf : 175.00
  12. Pegasus : 175.00
  13. Red Wolf : 172.92
  14. Asian Bearcat : 164.58
  15. Golden Tabby Tiger : 162.50
  16. Emperor Penguin : 158.33
  17. Andean Flamingo : 150.00
  18. Sabretooth Tiger : 150.00
  19. Golden Snub Nosed Monkey: 145.83
  20. Okapi : 141.67

13. Beginner's tip - Desperately short of coins? Plant a red or blue geranium. They cost 50 coins each. Then bulldoze it. You'll get 5 coins for doing this plus 30 coins and 5 XP for watering it. That means it will cost you 15 coins. However doing this can also earn you the yard sale trophies and the Gardener trophies which can be worth 100 to 25,000 coins making you a profit.

14. Everyone Need more XP? Then use tip 13 to achieve the Yard Sale trophies. You'll get 100 XP for bulldozing 10 geraniums, 400 XP for bulldozing 50, 1,200 XP for 100 and 2,400 XP for bulldozing 500.

15. If an advanced player was to clear their entrance map and then add, near the entrance:

This zoo would be very popular amongst visitors since visiting it would allow you to collect 2,650 coins and 490 XP. Enough to get a new player instantly to level 4. It would also quickly get the owner the socialite platinum trophy.

Of course you could also add scenery and buildings to this zoo map but no other flora or animals.

Don't have a friend with a zoo like this? Try adding Fred Bloggs to your friends.

16. Advanced tip. For XP, the most profitable building is 'Sky-Flyer Scott's Balloon Ride' which earns 3,000 coins and 300 XP every 48 hours which is 15.63 XP/space/hour.

For coins the most profitable building is Torre del Oro, a limited edition international building. It earns 41.67 coins/space/hour.

The most expensive building, the animal hospital, earns 500 XP and 5,000 coins every 48 hours but because it is bigger that works out at 1.74 XP/space/hour and 17.36 coins/space/hour.

17. Advanced tip. Others can't see my posts/ I can't see other's posts. Help!
You have probably messed up your privacy settings. To cure it try this:

If it's Zoo Kingdom only which is affected then:

  1. On your home page scroll to the bottom and look for the link 'Edit options' at the bottom right. Make sure Zoo Kingdom is NOT listed there as a blocked post.
  2. Under Accounts > Privacy Settings look for the 'Edit your lists' link under Block lists and make sure Zoo Kingdom is not listed there.
  3. Go to Accounts > Application settings and find the row for Zoo Kingdom at the bottom.
Select 'Edit settings' in it's row and open the 'Additional permissions' tab.
Make sure both items are checked.

If this affects other applications as well then -

Privacy settingsClick your home page in the order shown. You'll get this page Set it as follows in the circled areas. (The other settings are a good idea too)

Facebook Suggested Settings

18. Beginner's Tip If you miss a Zoo Spin and find yourself back on level 1 of the spin then DON'T click the Power-up lever. Make the spin, collect the item awarded and post the result to your wall. You'll then find yourself at spin level 2 - exactly the same as if you had clicked the power-up lever, but you will also have an extra item. (Idea from Robin Chapman.)
