You are looking at the Lambeth Bridge across the River Thames. The first bridge, built here was constructed in 1862 on the site of an ancient horse ferry which had achieved some fame when it sank and cost Oliver Cromwell his belongings. The only trace of this ferry now is the name of the road leading to the bridge,'Horseferry Road'. The present bridge, was built between 1929 and 1932 and comprises of five steel span arches designed by Sir George Humpheries.
