I've thought a lot about it and I would have to say that the one
thing that has influenced my life more than anything would have
to be music. I've loved it as far back as I can remember. I was
singing little children's songs, taught to me by my mother and
grandmother before I could even read. I've had all sorts of musical
instruments and, although I've never had any 'real' training,
other than the regular music classes at school (and about a year
or so of piamon lessons) I think I'm pretty good at it. I've just
always loved the idea of music. I loved what it did to me and what
it did to people around me. I decided if it affected me in a certain
way, then maybe I could affect other people through it. Whether
it be playing and instrument, singing myself or exposing others
to the different types of music.
Music has so much to offer. It says so many things we are afraid
to say. It doesn't care if you're black or white or green with
orange stripes or if you're 'gay' or 'straight'. Music is universal.
It affects everyone in a unique way. It binds and it tears apart.
It moves a person to make decisions they otherwise would not have
made. It opens doors that our own self pride keeps wedged shut.
It allows us to open the little box locked away and see ourselves
for what we really are.
Am I an expert with music? I most certianlly am not nor do I claim
to be. I am a person that loves everything that has to do with
music and I am going to do my best to help you learn (if you don't
already) to love it at least 'half' as much as I do.
