Simon & Garfunkel
|
FORMED:
1964, New York, NY
DISBANDED: 1970 |
|
Simon
and Garfunkle first performed together as 'Tom and Jerry',
in 1957 when they made a top 50 single called, Hey Schoolgirl.
It was not, however, until the mid 60's that their career
really took off when producer Tom Wilson took their song,
The Sound of Silence, and transformed it with electric guitars,
bass and drums into a number 1 hit. From then on until their
disbandment in 1970, they went from hit to hit, culminating
in their enormously successful, Bridge Over Troubled Water,
which topped the charts for 10 weeks.
They
did not, so much, split up as drift apart. Art Garfunkle,
taking up an acting career and Paul Simon, continuing
as a highly successful songwriter and performer in his
own right.
