Getting the David Griffiths applets

David Griffith closed his sites, as of the end of 2001 and has no plans to develop the lake or other applets any further.

In his own words,

"...thank you to all the people who have done so many things with the little program I wrote one Saturday afternoon so so long ago, and also to say that I will be closing spigots.com sometime before Christmas in order to work on larger Java projects. Sadly this means that the original lake applet will no longer be developed. It will of course still be available in the many online archives, and will no doubt live on in the many clones that it spawned but sadly I shall no longer add another bytecode to it."

Now in the past you could get to David's site (spigots.com) by double clicking any lake applet which did not have the href parameter set. Now however you get to a 'Domain for sale' page which, among other things, has Adult links.

So how do I get the code I need?

To make the applets available to you we've taken the liberty of putting on our site a zip file, produced by David Griffiths which contains all you need along with David's own comments on it's use. Since the file came from a website no longer present on the web we can't guarentee that all the links in it will work.

We've also included links to older versions of the lake applet class files. You should save the lake.class and Lake.class files in separate directories/folders to prevent them overwriting each other. Do NOT attempt to change the names of class files - they won't work if you do

Copyright to these files is owned by David Griffiths. Please read his comments in the HTML file.

Finally, since many people do not wish to have an applet which links to that 'Domain for sale' site we have included a version of lake.class which links to this page. Remember however, you can set your own link (or have no link at all) by including the href parameter. (Technically this is against David's 'terms and conditions' but we feel he won't disapprove nearly as much as he dissaproves of the link to the 'Domain for sale' with a price tag of $688-1,000,000. If we are wrong and you read this David, please contact us and we'll immediately remove this.)

The David Griffiths Lake applet zip file

lake.class
- pre-horizon applet with rock parameter
Lake.class
- early pre-horizon or rock parameter applet
Panorama.class
- A different applet used to display panoramic views
lake.class
- modified 'latest version' which links to this page instead of 'Spigots.com'
