Round the Bend
…is a classic book by Nevil Shute. It's quite old, set in the period just after WW2. It's a classic I read in the 1960s and re-read recently. Well worth a read. Click the picture below to read some of it.

A Town Like Alice
Another great book written by Nevil Shute is, 'A Town Like Alice' which tells the story of a young woman, captured by the Japenese in WW2. She survived a prison camp and discovers she has been left a legacy (the book was published in the US as 'Legacy'). She uses it to travel and discovers a man she thought dead survived a brutal execution. She travels to Australia to reunite and in the process invigorates a sleepy backwater town.

Should Smartphones be allowed in schools?
Whenever smartphones in schools are debated, the discussion almost immediately splits into two camps: total prohibition or complete permission. We seem to be very concerned about the harm that can be done but often ignore that they could become a vital education resource.
Just as teachers in the early 2000s woke up to the impact of camera phones, somthing new will have an even greater impact.
