'In the Zone' would prove to be both beneficial and detromental to Britney as crtics had a field day with the contriversal single, 'Toxic'. What looked to me to be one of her best video caused a lot of shock waves throughout the adult world. On its release, many placed an R rating on it because of her rhinestone studded body smock. I will admit, when I first saw the video it did appear that Britney was naked, apart from some very stragetically placed rhinestones. Upon closer examination there are clear lines where sleeves, neckline, trouser legs as well as both under pansts and a bra (or bikini top) which ever way you want to look at it. If any of the critics had their doubts that Britney had indeed grown out of her 'soda pop' days, this video should have left them with no doubts.

Toxic became an international number on and US top ten hit single, winning Britney her first Grammy award in the category of Best Dance Recording.

On 3 January, 2004, Britney made another 'unwise' mistake and married her childhood sweetheart, Jason Allen Alexander at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Rumours had it that it was a joke taken too far. The marriage lasted for 45 hours and ended with an annulment. The tabloids did not help matters by stating Britney "lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage because before entering into the marriage the Plantiff and Defendant did not know each other's likes and dislikes, each others' desires to have or not have children, and each other's desires as to State of residency."
